Missed clock-in/out explanations

Updated 1 June 2026

When a guard does not clock in or out of a scheduled shift, TacDesk records it automatically and asks the guard to explain. Those explanations appear on the Issues page so you can see what happened.

Where to find them

Missed clock events show in the Open Anomalies list on the Issues page, labelled Missed clock-in or Missed clock-out. Open one to see the guard, the shift, and the reason the guard gave.

How they are detected

  • A background check runs roughly hourly and flags any recently finished shift where the guard did not clock in, or clocked in but never clocked out.
  • The event is logged whether or not the guard ever explains it — so a guard who never opens the app still appears here.
  • Detection waits until a shift has been over for a short while, so a guard who is only a few minutes late clocking out is not flagged.

Reading the reason

  • Reason: … — the guard opened the app and explained in their own words.
  • Asked — no reason given — the guard saw the prompt but chose to skip it.
  • Awaiting explanation from guard — the guard has not yet opened the app to respond.

The guard is prompted once per shift, the next time they open the app.

Actioning them

Each item behaves like any other anomaly: review it, then mark it reviewed or justified once you are satisfied. If the clock time itself needs correcting for payroll, adjust the shift record from the Hours area — the explanation recorded here does not change recorded hours.
