Requesting time off

Updated 13 May 2026

Submit holiday and leave requests directly through TacDesk. Your manager is notified immediately and you receive a notification when they approve or decline.

Submitting a request

  1. Go to the Shifts tab and tap Request time off. You can also navigate directly via the URL parameter ?view=time-off.
  2. Select your start date and end date. For a single day, set both dates to the same date.
  3. Choose a type:
    • Holiday — planned annual leave
    • Personal — personal or family matter
    • Sickness — illness (can be filed after the fact)
    • Training — external course or qualification day
    • Other — anything that does not fit the above
  4. Add notes if helpful, then tap Submit.

Your holiday balance

If your company tracks accruals, your remaining holiday balance is shown in the time-off view. It updates once a request is approved, not when you submit it. If no balance is shown, your company may not have holiday tracking enabled — speak to your manager.

What happens after you submit

Your manager reviews the request and you receive a notification showing Approved or Declined. You can see all pending and past requests in the time-off view of the Shifts tab.

Timing your requests

  • Holiday: submit several weeks ahead where possible. Busy periods (bank holidays, summer, December) fill up quickly and cover is harder to arrange at short notice.
  • Sickness: call your manager when you wake up sick — do not rely on the app alone. File the request as soon as you are able to, even retrospectively, so the absence is on record for payroll.
  • Cancellations: if you need to cancel an approved request, contact your manager directly. The form may not have a self-serve cancel option.

Common questions

My request was declined. What do I do? Contact your manager to discuss alternatives. You can submit a new request for different dates.

Does an approved request remove me from scheduled shifts? No — your manager needs to reallocate those shifts separately. Confirm with them that cover has been arranged.
