Direct messages
Updated 13 May 2026
Direct messaging lets you have a two-way conversation with your managers and supervisors inside TacDesk. The Messages tab is in the bottom navigation (chat bubble icon) and only appears if your company has the messaging feature enabled.
Unread count badge
A small number appears above the Messages icon in the navigation when you have unread messages. The count refreshes roughly every 15 seconds, so there may be a brief delay before it updates after a message arrives. Tap the Messages tab to open your conversations and clear the badge.
How to send a message
- Tap the Messages tab.
- Tap an existing conversation to open it, or start a new one by tapping New Message where available.
- Type in the text field at the bottom and tap Send.
Your manager will receive a push notification when you send a message — they do not need to have the app open.
What to use messages for
- Questions about your shift, post orders, or instructions.
- Reporting a non-urgent issue and getting a written reply.
- Getting confirmation of something your manager has asked you to do.
- Following up on a report you have submitted.
What not to use messages for
- Urgent or safety-critical issues — phone your manager instead. Messages are not monitored in real time.
- Sensitive personal information — messages are visible to your management team and stored on the server. Do not send bank details, passwords, or home addresses.
Conversations and history
Conversations are saved. Scroll up in any conversation to review earlier messages. Conversations can be reviewed by your employer as part of a workplace record, so keep your tone professional.
Push notifications for messages
If you have the native app installed and notifications enabled, new messages arrive as push notifications — you do not have to be in the app to receive them. If notifications are not arriving, see the Troubleshooting article.
