Explaining a missed clock in or out
Updated 1 June 2026
Sometimes when you open the app you may see a short popup headed Missed clock-in or Missed clock-out, asking what happened on a recent shift. This article explains why it appears and what to do.
Why am I seeing this?
TacDesk noticed that a recent scheduled shift was missing a clock event:
- Missed clock-in — there is no record of you clocking in for that shift.
- Missed clock-out — you clocked in but never clocked out, so the shift was left open.
It only asks about shifts that have already finished, and it asks once per shift.
What should I do?
- Check which shift it is asking about — the site and date are shown in the popup.
- Type a short note explaining what happened — for example “Phone battery died”, “Forgot to clock out”, or “Covered a different post”.
- Tap Submit. Your note goes straight to your management team.
You can tap Skip if you would rather not say. The shift is still flagged to your manager as missed, but without a reason.
Does this fix my hours?
No. The popup only records the reason — it does not change your shift times. If your clock-in or clock-out time needs correcting, tell your manager, who can adjust the record from the management dashboard. Do not clock in again to try to fix it yourself, as this creates a duplicate record.
Avoiding missed clocks
- Keep notifications switched on so you receive shift and clock-out reminders.
- Clock out before you leave site at the end of your shift.
- If the app would not let you clock in or out at the time, mention that in your note so your manager can look into it.
