Getting started with TacDesk

Updated 13 May 2026

TacDesk is your all-in-one shift companion: clock in and out, file reports, check your schedule, respond to call alerts, and stay in contact with your management team — all from your phone or browser.

Finding your way around

Once you are logged in you will land on the Guard Hub. A row of tabs runs along the bottom of the screen. The exact number of tabs depends on which features your company has enabled — you may see anywhere from six to twelve. The tabs that are always present:

  • Dashboard — your home screen. Clock in, check shift info, and access quick actions.
  • Reports — file and view incident, patrol, and other reports.
  • Profile — your personal details and SIA licence information.
  • My Performance — your shift history and activity statistics.
  • Settings — notification preferences and logout.

Optional tabs that appear only if your company has them enabled:

  • Shifts — your rota and scheduled hours.
  • Messages — direct messaging with colleagues and management.
  • Memos — notices from management.
  • SOPs and Docs — site operating procedures and documents.
  • BOLOs — Be On the Look-Out alerts for your site.
  • Site Instructions — site-specific guidance from management.
  • Occurrence Book — formal shift log visible to management (only when clocked in).

If there are more tabs than fit on your screen, a More button appears at the end — tap it to see the rest.

The top bar

Across the top of the hub you will see:

  • A small coloured connection indicator dot on the left — green means online, yellow means weak signal, grey means offline.
  • Your company logo in the centre.
  • On the right: a feedback button (💡), the ? help button (that is how you opened this article), and a light/dark toggle (☀️ / 🌙). The default is dark mode.

Switching between tabs

Tap any tab in the bottom navigation. The hub switches without a full page reload, so it is fast.

Where to start on your first shift

  1. Log in with the credentials your manager gave you — see the Logging in and the mobile app article if you need help.
  2. Check your Profile tab and confirm your details are correct. Add your SIA licence number and expiry date so you receive renewal reminders.
  3. On shift, go to the Dashboard tab and tap Clock In.

App vs browser

You can use TacDesk in any browser at your company's TacDesk web address, or via the free native app (search TacDesk in the App Store or Google Play). The app is recommended for daily use on shift: it delivers push notifications, supports biometric login, and works better when your connection is intermittent.
