Connection indicator
Updated 13 May 2026
The small coloured dot in the top bar of the hub shows your current connection status at a glance, updating in real time.
What the colours mean
- Green — online and stable. Everything works normally.
- Yellow — weak or slow connection. TacDesk is still connected but some actions (submitting reports, loading large files) may take longer than usual.
- Red or grey — offline. No internet connection detected.
What works offline
TacDesk caches recently loaded content, so you can still:
- View pages and content that have already loaded this session
- Read downloaded SOPs and memos (if your company has them)
- Write draft reports (though you cannot submit them until you are back online)
What does not work offline
- Submitting reports or forms — these require a server connection
- Real-time messages and check-calls
- Clocking in and out — the clock-in button attempts a GPS capture and a server round-trip, so it requires connectivity
- Loading new notifications or updated content
When your connection returns
The hub auto-reconnects — you do not need to refresh the page. The indicator dot will turn green once connectivity is restored. You can then submit any drafts you saved while offline.
Working in a low-signal area
If your post is in a location with poor or no signal (e.g. a basement, car park, or rural site), plan ahead:
- Clock in before entering the low-signal area — once clocked in, the shift record is saved server-side.
- Write reports as drafts and submit them when you return to a signal area.
- Patrol checkpoints that require a GPS ping may not register in dead zones — note this in your Occurrence Book entry.
Connection is showing red but I have a signal
The indicator reads from your device's connection APIs. If your device has Wi-Fi but the Wi-Fi itself has no internet (e.g. a captive portal that needs login, or a router with no upstream), the indicator may still show offline. Check that you can load a different website to confirm. If TacDesk specifically is unreachable, see the Troubleshooting article.
